Some friends needed a table, but they were limited on space. This was their idea I was just lucky enough to make it. I've always wanted to carve on tables, but that really just creates problems. So instead I did some fun inlays and just carved some of the pieces of trim. The patterns were inspired by Mexican/Spanish tiles. It even has a pullout on the end to make it pretty much a full sized table.
Mouse Cheese Board
This is a fun little cheese board I made. Figured a couple mice would fit right in. The inlay is made up of several types of wood. There's maple, Russian olive, purple heart, and honestly some type I'm not even sure of. Someone gave me some random pieces of wood, and I really don't know the type. The main board is walnut. I've really been enjoying doing inlays. It's a fun new addition to the types of work I love doing.
Copper Deer Skull
A friend wanted me to paint and patina a deer skull to look like aged copper. These types of things are always a lot of fun. It turned out great. If you have a skull or most anything you'd like to look like an aged metal let me know. It's a lot of fun. And usually doesn't take all that long so its not expensive.
Hummingbird Cutting Board
This cutting board started out as some scrap wood left over from some shelves. It is a thank you for some wonderful people. Hummingbirds are special to them so I wanted to add that touch. The inlay is made up of a bunch of different types of wood to build the colors and design.
Cedar Hot Tub
I recently finished making a cedar hot tub. It's wood fired. This was a first for me, and after a hickup or 2 it's all set. It's 6 ft across, and 40 inches deep. It has benches and a set of steps to get in. I welded up the brackets for the bands to hold it snug so it would be water tight. Really crazy project, but fun as well. It is great for a cold plunge in the summer, and heats up fairly quickly when you want it hot. It smells amazing with all the cedar.
Woven Door Closet
This cabinet is a built in for some extra storage. A few years ago I made some doors to cover another closet close to this cabinet. So I wanted the doors to match. The carving on the doors match some carvings on another door next to the cabinet. I wanted this cabinet to match the different elements in the room. One thing I really like about this style of panel is I use up a lot of scrap pieces of wood. The other great benefit is the doors are similar to louvered doors in that they allow sone air in and out. The original doors were made for the closet the hot water heater is in. So if there is ever moisture it can dry out. The carvings are painted to look a little like old rusted metal matching some hardware on the door in the room. Always fun getting to add a lot of different elements in a project.
